Nikon Software Updated…

Nikon has announced updated versions of Nikon ViewNX, which now reaches version 2.3.0, and Nikon Capture NX2 which is updated to version 2.3.1.

I use Capture NX a lot, and like its technical qualities.

Nikon ViewNX comes with a camera and can be used to browse and edit in basic forms both still and movie files.

It includes Nikon Transfer software for trnsfering files when a camera or card reader is attached to a computer. This can of course be deactivated.

Nikon Capture NX Course…

I am very pleased to say that Nikon UK LTD have asked me to host their upcoming workshop on Capture NX on October 3rd.

This is something I am very happy to do, because while it may not be the most ‘fashionable’ of software based on user numbers, I do use it myself as a fundamental aspect of my workflow.

So having taken the time to really understand its concepts, character and how to set it up in practical, day to day use, I will be sharing that knowledge to save others lots of time.

Personally, I am still to see anything better for working on Nikon Raw (NEF) files  in an overall technical sense.

In truth I do have other software options, and respect each for it’s strengths, but shooting around Nikon’s ‘Total Imaging System’ concept makes a lot of sense to me once everything is set-up properly with the right workflow. Most often an image starts and ends in Capture NX.

Of course, the content is also a fine introduction too many general post capture capabilities, no matter your software preference and needs. And don’t forget that if you shoot Jpegs or Tiff files, virtually any camera system can be used at the front end with Capture NX alongside.

So for the non professional, looking to maximise their ‘fun’ with image making, through too those aiming for a professional workflow, using Capture NX in full, or as part of the post capture process, there will be a lot covered. And as always, we aim to make it fun and factual for everyone’s benefit.  For more details: Click Here.

Return Of First Thoughts…

On speaking to people recently at various events, it has become apparent, that many miss my ‘first thoughts’. These were something we used to offer as a knee jerk comment, whenever we had some new piece of equipment pass through our hands or notification of something being announced.

Apologies, but time and some issues with the site has meant we are behind on updating and widening our content.

But ‘first thoughts’ and more are on their way once again.

Starting Soon…

The Good, The Bad And The Down Right Ugly?

Following many requests during my workshops and seminars, we will soon start posting some ‘JC thoughts’ about the products I use, have used, or get a chance to test.

They will be quite wide spread in scope, but certainly lenses, flash equipment both portable and studio, plus a wealth of accessories, and software, will over time be included on an ongoing basis.

These will not be extremely long as I want them to be practical and ‘real world’ assessments that get to the point to save reading time. But they will be honest, even if that means saying things that may surprise or even disappoint some. But on that note Im just going to be continuing my ‘personal’ appraisals that I voice on many courses when asked. People seem to appreciate them for their honesty and the way I have evaluated things.

But these will only be my opinions, so anyone serious about the potential of this or that product should of course look at as many photographers accounts as possible to draw their overall conclusions.

Im not trying to sell anything, it will be just about how they have performed for me in my work. Each new item will either appear under or be announced in this news section, but many will be posted under the ‘Toolbox’ menu.

People Photography For Beginners…

Few if any subjects are photographed more than people. I am pleased to announce therefore that my ‘People Photography For Beginners’ Workshop is once again taking bookings.

This popular course is this time going to be hosted by Park Cameras for the first time on July 16th.

As always, we take things from the basics and cover so different types of people photography in a step-by-step way that delegates usually rate the day very highly.

So if you want to capture family and friends in a home environment in a traditional way, or create a more modern fashion orientated approach to portraits, these amongst others are discussed and demonstrated. Delegates also get a chance to shoot some of their own images.

Lighting, posing and post capture tips aplenty, help make for an informative and fun day. For more info click here.

Aperture Event…

I am pleased to confirm the latest of our software events.

This one is for Apple users based around Aperture 3, the most recent high profile, high performance software launch. Building on our previous Aperture experience, combined with some intensive day in day out real world use, we have been living with the program, putting to the test its claims and performance.

I want to show just how to get the best from it from the photographers perspective, so with our partner company Park Cameras, I am pleased to offer a one day event in early July.

On the day we not only go through the how’s and why’s of the features, how to set them up and utalise them to best effectiveness, but also we will do it a way that puts photographers and photography first, so with a practical workflow for different kinds of photographer. Read more…

New To Digital Photography?

I am extremely pleased to announce that my popular ‘Digital Photography In A day’ seminars are going to run once again from February. As the title suggests, we take things from the ground up, and through two seminars, take people through the capture skills needed to create good pictures, plus the most useful of post capture skills.

All is from the fundamentals, easy to follow and designed to save countless hours of trial and error. It enables people to enjoy their photography as soon as possible.
Two of my partner companies are supporting this so we can offer a wide coverage throughout the UK. Calumet are our hosts for London, Manchester, Bristol, Nottingham, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Belfast over the coming months.

Park Cameras In Burgess Hill are likewise supporting these events.

Suitable for anyone with any digital SLR or advanced digital compact camera regardless of brand, plus a wide range of different software packages on the market once again I believe we have something people will appreciate and enjoy.
